My jump rope journey began in April 2020, during the first national lockdown.

I’d been furloughed from my job, the gyms were shut, and the boredom was kicking in. I wanted something that would keep me busy and take my mind off what was happening in the world, while challenging me to learn a new skill and making the most of all the time I had to spend outside.

Having tried jump rope a handful of times in my early twenties and already knowing how fun (but challenging!) it could be, it seemed like the perfect option.

A few days after receiving my rope, I started my Instagram profile as a fun way to track my progress.

But I’ll be honest: I made quite a few mistakes:

  • I was scouring the internet for inspiration and information.
  • And then, when I found it, I had to figure out what to do with all that info and make a plan for myself!
  • I did too much too soon (and suffered the consequences by getting injured)
  • I learned tricks in the wrong order.
  • And I focused on the wrong things.

Everything I was doing was through trial and error – just like all the other jump rope beginners out there. I had to learn the hard way, but I’m now proud to say that everything you see me do is entirely self-taught.

As the world returned to normal, it was clear that jump rope had become really popular, but that people no longer had the time to jump for hours a day, making up their progress as they went along.

So, I learned from the mistakes I made and the months I spent figuring out what to do, and I self-funded and created the resource I wish I had back in April 2020: Fancy Feats.

That, combined with building a large following across social media, has led me to where I am today: in a position where people starting their jump rope journey for the first time look to my videos for inspiration. And that’s something I will never take for granted!

“Jump rope turned my life around in lockdown. It gave me a reason to get out of bed, satisfaction when I unlocked new skills, something to focus on, a shared interest with people all over the world, and a way to keep myself active and have fun. And it’s still doing that to this day!”
