When I began my jump rope journey back in March 2020, at the start of the first UK lockdown, it was initially because I couldn’t go to the gym and wanted a fun way to keep fit.
I began following hashtags like #JumpRope and #Skipping to help me find inspiration and online jump rope support.
But what I actually found was so much more: a supportive, global jump rope community to become a part of both online and offline!
Even all these years later, the community is, without doubt, one of my favourite things about this sport.
There’s a real “community over competition” feel to jump rope.
People want to see others succeed and are more than happy to share tips, tricks, and insights.
Everyone has either been through what you’re going through (if they’re further along in their journey than you are), or they’re going through it at the same time as you and trying to learn the same things right now, too.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at jump rope meetups where someone has shared a tip with another jumper who’s struggling, and it’s made something “click” and helped them master whatever it is they’re working on.

There are so many different styles of jump rope (and ways to measure success), so everyone within the community has a different focus.
Some jump purely for speed, some focus on tricks, and others add dance moves.
Seeing different people master different jump rope styles is really inspiring – it means there’s always something else you can have a go at!
Jump rope is such a fun (and somewhat addictive!) sport, but unless you do it, you don’t really understand why.
One of the best things about the jump rope community is that it’s full of people who know exactly why you love it so much – because they do too.
Jump rope is a truly global sport.
I’ve met people from all over the world at jump rope meetups, and online.
I love seeing pics and vids of people jumping in different places, especially on a beautiful beach or with some mountains in the background.
In fact, I have my own free Facebook community where people share videos, tips, and insights from all over the world. I love seeing different parts of the world through their content!
It’s a really active, supportive group; people post literally every day, and they all cheer each other on.
Plus, I drop in when I can to share personalised advice for people asking for help.

The jump rope community is more than just a place to share tricks! You’ll find real encouragement, new jump rope styles to try, and the motivation to keep improving.
