My favourite jump rope combos (and how you can master them, too!)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – one of the best things about jump rope is the number of ways you can combine different skills. The options for creating jump rope combos are pretty much endless. Which is why it’s one of the few sports that truly never gets boring!

And, while I love coming up with new and fun jump rope combos (and putting them together to build creative choreos), I have a few favourites that I keep coming back to.

Let’s chat through some of my go-to jump rope combos.

(I’ve listed the combo numbers as they appear on the Fancy Feats app so you can try them too!)

The 360 Running Man (Combo 027)

Skills used: 360 turn, forward straddle, high knees, running man

If I had to pick my “signature move”, it would be this one.

I do this combo all the time. It’s one of those fun jump rope combos that never gets old – and because I’ve practised it so much, I can now do it super fast.

To master this combo, ensure your feet rotate fully through 90 degrees with each quarter turn. If not, you’ll struggle to get all the way around while the rope passes over you.

Combo 047

Skills used: High knees, toe taps to side, knee crossover, swing open

This combo is deceptively tricky because every other step involves an open.

It might take a bit of time to understand the rhythm and pattern, but once it clicks, it becomes one of the most fun jump rope combos to perform.

The Reverse March (Combo 051)

Skills used: High knees, side straddles, heel shuffle

This combo gives the illusion that you’re marching backwards on the spot – hence the name.

The transitions between high knees, heel taps, and side straddles will challenge your full-body coordination, but, once you get it down, The Reverse March is incredibly smooth and flowy.

Start with one knee lift. Then step that foot behind you, tap your heel with the opposite foot, lift the front foot again into a high knee, then move into a side straddle. Repeat, and go again!

Reverse Swing Kicks (Combo 062)

Skills used: Swing kicks, high knees

This combo is a twist on a classic. Think of the motion of swing kicks – but in reverse: instead of swinging back and kicking out, you kick first, then swing back in.

Once complete, you’ll land in a forward straddle position, giving you the option to transition into more swing kicks or even back into something like the running man.

Toad EB Wrap (Combo 070)

Skills used: Toad, EB wrap

Even though this jump rope combo only includes two moves, it’s not super simple.

But it IS super fun.

The key challenge is the transition between the Toad and the EB wrap. When exiting the Toad, avoid opening your arms too much. Keep one arm tight to your body to make a clean swing into the EB wrap.

Mastering transitions like this is crucial if you want to learn how to get better at jump rope combos overall.

How to get better at jump rope combos over time

Before trying to link skills together, make sure you’ve nailed each individual move on its own.

Inside the Fancy Feats app, you’ll find full tutorials for all of these movements – and for each of the full combos as well. It’s the perfect tool for learning jump rope combos at your own pace!
